Project In Progress

Our client was Friends of Nature, People & Forests an Indonesian NGO who look to safeguard Indonesia's endangered wildlife and their habitats while improving the lives of local communities. The brief was to create a versatile building which could be used predominantly as a place for Yoga tuition, and also as a community hub and place for educating people about the work of FNPF.

The whole design and build process is 6-months. With around 3-months from inception to technical design, and 3-months for construction.

The compact design and build process meant that we had to design practically and pragmatically from the start. After researching vernacular typologies we quickly understood that the building would most likely be a "stick build" - beam & post construction. We quickly made some research maquettes to see how the structures worked and from there started making our own designs. Due to the tight timescales, we decided to design exclusively through model-making, this way we were able to test structure, assembly and detailing at the same time. The physical model then informed a 3D-CAD model which enabled HTS engineers to size the timbers and produce fixing and footing details.
